Am I being paid at the correct rate?

Where can I find information about teachers’ salary and working conditions?

The NUT’s Pay Calculator will work out your pay for you.

Full details of school teachers pay and conditions of employment are set out each year in the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document.  You may wish to refer to this if you are concerned about your rights regarding pay and working conditions.

This document only covers part of a teacher’s working conditions. Most teachers are also covered by the terms of the Burgundy Book.

The Burgundy Book contains conditions of service provisions on such areas as appointment, resignation, retirement, sick pay/sick leave and maternity pay/maternity leave. It represents the national agreement between the six teacher associations and the local authorities.  Many Academies have also adopted the Burgundy Book.

Where can I find  information about?

Am I eligible to cross the Threshold onto the Upper Pay Scale?  What is the Assessment Process?

I am struggling with demands at work. What can I do?

You are not unusual.  Many teachers struggle with work demands and it is the main cause of teachers leaving the profession.  We have dedicated a page of this site to advice on tackling stress.

If the advice you are seeking is not provided here, or if you need assistance because you are not receiving the pay or conditions you are entitled to, contact a local officer who should be able to help you.
